 Soviet Union

           Soviet flag

The Soviet Union what is now Russia had controlled most of Eastern Europe. The Soviet Union was established in 1945 and fell in 1991. During this time a government took over and was made a communist country.  The first human in space, Yuri Gagarin, was from the Soviet Union and beat everybody to it by far.

When the Soviet Union took control over Eastern Europe they completely drained out Eastern Europe’s economy completely for military equipment for further domination over other countries.  But during that time the Soviet Union also drained its own economy with all of the military items that they purchased and not paying attention to their economy and every day items people need.

Cold War

After World War II, the Soviet Union and the USA (the two super powers of the world) went to war.  It was the most dangerous war ever, but not a single bullet was fired.  What I mean by this is that we could have destroyed the earth because it was a nuclear war.  The two countries had an arms race, like for an example the USA would threaten to fire a nuclear bomb at the Soviet Union and the Soviet Union would come back with a bigger stronger bomb.  Then they would threaten to fire it and then we would come out with something better and threaten to fire at them and so on.

At the same time the Soviet Union was taking over a lot of European countries.  So it was really just constant threats going back and forth between the two superpowers.  Since it was between the two superpowers that had the most money is what really made the cold war so dangerous to the world because since these two countries had so much money they could both produce some really powerful weapons to threaten each other with over and over again.

History

The Soviet Union was first established in 1945 and took over several countries like for example they took over Poland, The Czech Republic, Belarus, Ukraine, Slovakia, Hungary, ect. After this they developed a form of government. They used communism. People hated this new form of government and the people wanted to tear the union apart. When this didn’t work the people gave up and went through the torture of the government. The USSR Hockey team won the gold in the Olympics in the 1960's. This was a very big deal and people talked about it for months. In 1922 the USSR is born with V. I. Lenin as the dictator.  In 1922-1940 15 other countries joined the Soviet Union. In 1924 Lenin died and Joseph Stalin began to gain power. In 1928 the Union began to rapidly expand. Many other things happened until the fall of the union in 1991 and the countries were free.

Communism

As you know the Soviet Union was a communist country or thought they were.  Communism is when you try to divide all of the money and power in your country equally but in order to do that you have to give a lot of power to the government.  This form of government almost never works out because first of all you have to give lots of power to the government and most of the leaders go power crazy and forgets about being communist and starts to take advantage of the power to do crazy and unfair things.  Second all of the money is divided equally and so there is no Motivation to work because you get paid anyway.  For example if you were working at a McDonalds you wouldn’t have to do anything but show up at work and just sit there. This usually never works because all the power is in one person’s hand and they can make any rule they want. When this person does this, he or she becomes known as a dictator. Dictators are not always bad, there could be good dictator too but they are usually bad.

Wow I think you guys did SO well on the content. You also had perfect formatting. All I think you need to do is just put up some more pictures and maybe a bubbleshare or something like that. Great job I loved your page. Overall, I think you deserve a 93... but a 94 if you had more pictures.

Wow, I really learned a lot about the Soviet Union by looking at this page! You had the page written in totaly well kid-friendly language, and it was clearly written aside from the 37 grammer and spelling mistakes that I counted on this page, but if you ignore that it was pretty good. Unfourtunately, 37 grammer and spelling mistakes is pretty hard to ignore. Also, I counted 5 information mistakes like "The Soviet Union what is now Russia" and "The USSR Hockey team won the gold in the olympics in the 1960's", which seriously decreases your page's value.

I would say that you have a lot of grammer and spelling mistakes, and some serious information mistakes that severely decrease the value of your page. For all of these mistakes, I would take about 15 points off of your overall grade, putting you at an 85 or lower. Also, you never said anything about how the Soviet Union was related to Russia, which is what the assignment was.

Your strengths were that you had lots of information about the Soviet Union and their history. You also had lots of good formatting, there wasn't one error on this page! You also had a good scattering of informative links.

Overall, I wouldn't say that you did a great job, but it deffinately wasn't worthless. I would give it a 79-83.

Hey Guys, I think Landon's comments are a pretty good evaluation of your wiki page. You've definitely got tons of content...which is a good thing. The content that you have is also interesting....another good thing. But you've got far, far too many spelling and grammar errors for a final copy of an informational website. What would others think if our wiki was open? Also, any amount of content errors does weaken your piece. I wish you would have proofread a little more carefully!

I liked you page overall, but there where speling errors and most of your links are going to Wikipedia and not other places. But on the good side you have not to long and not to short paragraphs so they are easy to read when you want to learn fast. I think i would give you a 90.
