The Arctic Circle

By:  Joyce K, Erin F, and Melissa K

The Arctic Circle is one out of the five most important lines of latitude that mark out all of the maps of the Earth. It is located at 66° 33′ 39″ (or 66.56083°) north of the Equator. Russia has an important territory inside of the Arctic Circle, followed by Canada, Denmark (Greenland), Finland, Norway, Sweden, and the United States (Alaska). There is a very small amount of people living within the Arctic Circle. The three biggest towns that are above the Arctic Circle are located in Russia. They are Murmansk, Norilsk, and Vorkuta.

Norilsk

Winters in this cold city, sends the temperature plunging to negative 45 degrees Fahrenheit and drops the sun out of site for months at a time. Stalin, who dispatched hundreds of thousands of political prisoners here to extract the metal ore from mines so deep they seemed to run to the very center of the Earth, was the founder of this city. Later, Norilsk became a notorious example of wasteful communist planning, a place in which the air and water were fouled with dangerous chemicals that even now make breathing difficult.

Vorkuta

Vorkuta is located in Northwestern Russia, on the Vorkuta River. It is known as a coal mining town. Way back in 1932 after the World War two, coal mining became a very common job.  The coal mining bussiness didn't do much success until after the horrifiying war.  Where the coal mining industry took place, some of the mining land was used for forced-labor camps that Josef Stalin requested. It had its origin in one of the more non famuos labor camp of the Gulag which was established in 1932.

Murmansk

Murmansk is a large town in Russia.  This town is extreamly in the northwestern part of russia. It is north of the Arctic Circle and it also lies on the eastern shore of Kola Bay.  It has a sea port of the bay too, and it is always not frosen because of the North Atlantic drift. The town was founded in 1915 used for a supply port in World War I.  It was a base for the British, French, and American expeditionary forces that were against the Bolsheviks in the year of 1918.  In World War II, Murmansk served as the force's main port. This City is an imortant  navy base, and is the largest city above the Arctic Circle.

That was pretty good, way to turn a hard topic into a wiki page. Even though the topic was hard i think you could have pulled a little bit more info out of Norilsk, Vorkuta Murmansk. Also, the only realy good link part was the beginning, and i would put way more, or at least 1 link in Murmansk.Good job anyway. Oh and by the way i gave you a 90.

This was a very good page. You had a lot of links and a lot of information. The content was great, too. The only thing that I would change is the format. There are way too many spaces! I would also change a few links. Like there two links about the Arctic Circle. Over all, I would give you guys 90.

You page is good, it may need a little more content. Also the majoritie of your links go to wikipedia. Otherwise your wiki page is good.

Hey Guys,

Overall, I think that what you have here is an average to below average amount of information. It would have been nice to see more content under some of your subtitles. My guess is that one of the struggles that you had was that not every member of your group made equal contributions when it comes to adding new content. I noticed in the page history that the majority of the content was added by one or two people.

From a formatting standpoint, I think your page is pleasing to the eye. I would have probably liked a few more links, though....some subtitles seem to have very few.

Hey Yall, I liked what you did with your page. You had a lot of pictures and other stuff like bubble share, but it wasn't too over the top. I also liked the big heading title of your page, it is very unigue. Your content was decent and you had a great amount of links that go to all differnt places.Your formatting however was a little too spaced out, and you could have put the table of contents above the bubble share. But over all it was a great page. Keep up the great work!!!

Overall, I think this page was ok. I thought that you could add more content in areas. Although some links went to other sites, most of them went to wikipedia. Also, I think there were little formatting errors. For example, the table of contents should have been placed right below the title. However, I liked your bubbleshare slideshow.

Wow!! I really am impressed with your work! You have A eye catching tittle, and good information, as well as good links. But im gonna need some convincing when it comes to an introduction to the Table of contents. You may be saying "Huh?" but when you talk about the Arctic circle in an overveiw, you introduce the ideas you elaborate upon in your table of contents. Its kind of like opening a present. You gave a card, and it was pretty on the front but on the inside, it tells you what the present is. It ruins the surpise, and nobody needs a intro to a present anyway. I think your content would be better if you took the table of contents and added an Arctic Circe overveiw, It could be the first paragraph AFTER the Table of contents, therefor you would be telling the reader about upcoming topics.

Hey guys, great job. i'd givse you between 88-91. your title is awesome. You have great detail. But your table of contents isn't at the beggining that's odd, how is the reader supposed to know what information is coming next. There was few grammar and spelling mistakes but you could have used a little more detail. Your information could of had more links too. Over all though you did really good. Keep up the good work.

I thought you had a great amount of links and lots of pictures. I love the buble share and how you cennected it to russia. You did not put enough content though.

I sorta think that there was very little content. The title should not be in that format it may look cool but is not what it should be. You could maybe use a few more descriptive pictures. The links did go to a varity of sources.

hey guys Michelle here. well.... I personaly think it not horrible but not great either. You had bubble shares witch were SSSSOOOO cool. You also have some bad things like not alot of content and not alot of links.Another thing is that there was alot of just random stuff not information.over all it was an ok page.
touch up your page,

You guys did a pretty good job but you could use a bit more content. UI liked all of the links and there was a ton of pics. Like Mr.F says its not the art and the fart its the learning part!!!!

I thought that this page was OK. It needs a little bit more content but has awesome pictures. You guys probably put a couple more links but the ones that are there are good ones. If you guys had more content, it would be and awesome page. I think that this page is pretty good.

I thought you could have put more facts in your page. Also I was really bored reading your page. I think you should have put some more unique words or phrases in your page to keep me not sleeping. Out of 100 I give you a 77%.

This page really rocks! I like your title in different color and font. You got several links which proves that your information is accurate. But I notice that there aren't a lot of information. Only several maps. Remember, is not the art and the fart, it's always the learning part! If I could give it a grade, I would give it an 84-85%

This page is ok you could of done bettter. It looks like you guys foucused more on the art. You really dont have a lot of content and that is very important. There are some links but not a lot you guys should of put more. Ottherwise I think you guys did pretty well.

this page is good but in my point of vieqw there is alot of art but not to much information

I think your page is pretty good, but there are a couple of Spelling/Grammar issues though. If I were you guys, I would pay a little bit more attention on content than the art part! I realize that you did have good content though. I wonder where you got your pictures from? Cool! An issue I see is that there is an inconsistent amount of discription for your pictures, I didn't know what most of them were. If I were you, I would use different references (links). Otherwise, Good Job!

Anonymous said

WOW! you guys have a really cool heading but not enough facts to back it up. your title says "wow" but your content is ok. try adding more information next time!

Malcolm H. I would say a three because there were important picutres and some links. The only problem is that the formatting is wrong and not enough information.
