Boris Yeltsin 

 

Boris Yeltsin was the Russian president from 1991-1999. In May of 1990 he was elected chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Russian Soviet SocialistBoris Yeltsin  Republic. Yeltsin was a part of the CPSU (Communtist Party of the Soviet Union) from 1961 to July 1990. In 1996 Boris avoided surgery on his heart. Many health problems had followed after.

 

He was elected First Secretary of the Sverdlovist of the Communist Party. Boris went through The Struggle for Russia during a stressful time in his career. In March of 1989 a big turn point came in his career. Boris was elected Congress of People's Deputies of the USSR (Union of Soviet Socalist Rebulic). Yeltsin died on April 23, 2007. Although many of his followers will still remember his great efforts.

 

 

Childhood 

 

Boris Nikolayevich Yeltsin was born on Febuary 1, 1931 in Yekaterinburg, Russia. Most of his childhood had much hardship. When Yeltsin was only three years old, his father was arrested and sent to a gulag for standing against the Soviets. Most of Yeltsin's childhood was spent in poverty because his father was usually left unemployed and his mother worked only as a seamstress. When Boris was a boy he blew off two of his fingers on his left hand while playing with a real grenade.

 

Boris Yeltsin was poor when he was young and when he got older, he got a job at a construction site. He attended a high school called Pushkin in a town called Berenzniki and at the school, some of his teachers had a bad time having him in a classroom.  Yeltsin eventually graduated from Pushkin High School. He played volleyball in the Sverdlovsk in the USSR in the Ural Polytechnic Institute. After he graduated, he married a college student that he knew and had children. Boris had a lot of health problems and struggled with them but he survived all of them.

 

His father Nikolai Yeltsin had to work at a labor camp because he was convicted of Anti- Soviet agitaition.

During His Time in Office

 

 

Yeltsin became president after the Berlin Wall fell. He was also the first democratically elected president of Russia. Boris was against Communism because his father was sent to a gulag. When he was president he slowed down some of the amount of Communisum. When the Soviet Union fell, Boris Yeltsin still remained in power.

 

While he was still in office there was rumors that he had two heart attacks. Yeltsin had met many times with numerous U.S presidents. In 1993, Yeltsin and former president George H. W. Bush signed the Start II Treaty. The treaty was meant to cease uncontinental fire of missiles or any warfare between our two countries.He also gave a speech with Bill Clinton and made former president Clinton laugh (picture of Boris and Clinton on the bottom of the page). Boris Yeltsin met with the Ukraine and Belarus leaders on the next Soviet Unions plan. He retired from office on December 31, 1999. He was replaced by Vladimir Putin the current prime minister of Russia.

 

 

 

Boris and the Soviet Union

 

Boris Yeltsin was apart of the Soviet Union (CPSU). He helped with the Soviets next move after they took over a country. Boris Yeltsin didnt like Communism as much as he was supposed to. He didnt like it because his father was taken to a gulag. But during his time as president communism started to slow down. He was apart of the Soviet Union until they fell in the 1990's.
