Parts of Waves

Use this page to record what you've learned about the basic parts of every wave.  Use "Heading Two" for subtitles, and consider including information on crest, trough, amplitude, wavelength and frequency.  Be sure to describe how these different elements relate to one another and how each can be changed.

Crest

The crest is the highest point of a wave.

Trough

The trough is the lowest point of a wave.

Wavelength

Wavelength is the distance from one wave crest to the very next crest. Wavelength could also be from trough to trough.

Frequency

Frequency is the number of waves passing a fixed point in a certain amount of time.

 Amplitude

Amplitude is the distance the medium moves above or below its position of rest.
