Parts of Waves

Use this page to record what you've learned about the basic parts of every wave.  Use "Heading Two" for subtitles, and consider including information on crest, trough, amplitude, wavelength and frequency.  Be sure to describe how these different elements relate to one another and how each can be changed.

Crest

The crest is the highest point of a wave, the opposite of trough. A wave can have multiple crests.  And a crest can be any size, shape, or form. The wavelengh of the wave is measured inbetween two crests in the wave.

Trough

The trough is the lowest point of a wave. A wave can have multiple troughs. The trough is inbetween two crest and is also used to measure the wavelengh.

Wavelength

Wavelength is the distance from one wave crest to the very next crest. Wavelength could also be from trough to trough or crest to crest.

Frequency

Frequency is the number of waves passing a fixed point in a certain amount of time. If you increase the frequency then you will have more waves then if you decreace the frequency.

 Amplitude

Amplitude is the distance the medium moves above or below the trough. Amplitude  measures how much energy is in a wave.
